San Antonio-based AT&T (News - Alert) has won a contract from global emission technology company EMCON to connect the latter's operations in 19 countries through managed voice and data services. The deal has a timeline of five years. Under the terms of the contract, AT&T will deploy a Virtual Private Network and connect 44 EMCON engineering centers, manufacturing plants and administrative sites around the world. With Virtual Private Network, EMCON will conduct video conferences in the future to integrate video, audio and data information on a multipoint call. AT&T's Web-meeting service enables EMCON employees to collaborate online by adding a multimedia component to traditional conference calls. AT&T's secure Web-meeting service allows EMCON to add documents, illustrations and diagrams from remote locations across an encrypted Secure Sockets Layer to audio conference participants across the globe. As well as providing network data and conferencing services, AT&T will also provide EMCON with international and local long-distance voice services, local services, and corporate calling cards. New York-based EMCON Technologies is a privately owned company by One Equity Partners, and it serves light and commercial vehicle manufacturers. EMCON chose AT&T's network technology with its Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS ) backbone to enhance day-to-day business operations in sales, pricing and inventory. "Being able to collaborate from anywhere gives us the ability to quickly respond to business requirements and provides the competitive edge needed in a demanding market," said Gene Horlander, Senior Director, Enterprise Technology Information & Operations, EMCON Technologies.
